Street art is still dominated by men, it’s hard to name a couple of female artists, thus, the one and only is Becca Midwood, artist who has travelled around the world endowing this style with a touch of refined feminity.
Her works are everywhere in LA, New York, Miami or any of the big cities in the States and they highlight among the rest of the artists because of their soft lines full of curves evoking the love and beauty of femenine shapes. Even she has said that she only paints femenine bodies because masculine ones turn out effeminate.
Becca started painting when she was a girl following the steps of her mother, she led her studies to the art world and even her teachers encouraged her to do so, she ended her studies in Yale and got her MFA at San Francisco Art Institute. She began to use the Streets as an exhibition place to show her art to people before digital cameras and internet and she made her life of it. She is absolutely fascinated by displaying her works in public spaces and she doesn’t care if they are removed in no time at all, although she loves her artworks to remain over the years.
She reached fame thanks to her perseverance since she got the attention of the directors of a gallery in LA after painting a woman sleeping, time after time on a museum’s wall ’till she gained the opportunity of painting “with permission”. This opportunity made her join this street art world.
Her art is the expression of love and beauty and creates in the spectator a wonderfull impression of sweetness that remains in their hearts and make people recognize immediatly these unique creations. Dolls, teddy bears and charming women with a style inspired almost always in toys and fashion patterns from the 50’s.

Becca´s creations have evolved through the years, her bruised knees girls have grown up and they are now elegant ladies going round LA art galleries.
Symbol of feminity and childish whim, Becca is a real piece of work, demonstrated by this video uploaded in her site where she shows us how to be part of a showcase without being invited.
Her next exhibition, at the Copro Gallery in L.A. from April 20.
